But since it is for practice, when you take the mute off, the horn blows easier, so there is some additional training benefit, if you see it that way. I don't use the electronics, because I can hear the sound without it without a problem. If Yamaha would make the mute perform multiple duty as a tuner and compatible with Smart Music, it would be a much better buy. I didn't have a lot of time to go to the practice hall, so in between classes and whenever I had a little time, I could just play in my room.
